climate change &
rain water management
Project "De Wassende weg"
The project "de wassende weg" was based on the idea that moisture on the streeet will "collect/catch" the very small particles from the exhausts of cars. So the road need to be wet and while cars are driving over it, the wheels/tires will put moisture in the air, just below the street surface.
We developed together with the construction company a special type of (open) asphalt. By collecting the rainwater and storing it, it can be used to keep the street wet. In dry times, we pumped the collected rainwater through the asphalt on one side. At the other side it was collected again and cleaned/filtered.
The collection of water was build for "normal"rain. In case of heavy rain, the rainwater was infiltrated in the soil, storing a certain amount for the waasende weg.
the effect is amazing: less noise, less small particles and longer life of the road....
The "Wassende weg" ( the washing road) in Rotterdam
- collection of rain water
- catching small particles from exhausts
- reducing noise of wheels

noise reduction gully covers
(bron: wavin.nl)
we all know when we drive over a gully cover (cast iron) it can really make noise. This project was to eliminate this noise in all conditions; summer & winter. We were successful and patented the solution!
tensile connector gaspipes
(bron: wavin.nl)
when a gas- or waterpipe underground breaks, it needs to be repaired. Normally they need to glue the connection which takes 24 hours to dry, before it can be used. We developed a tensile connector without glue. After installation it can be directly be used so disturbance of delivery of water/gas is as short as possible.
infiltration gully
(bron: wavin.nl)
due to climate change, rainfall is more short en intense. The soil normally cannot handle this with flooding as a result. This gully is developed as part of a complete storage and slow infiltration system to avoid flooding. Where large storage and infiltration systems are use by government, these gullies can be used by private people.
